Venue: Meeting Room 1, UNU-IAS
Pacifico-Yokohama, 1-1-1 Minato Mirai
Nishi-ku, Yokohama

Event Description

This event will examine how we can identify and generate large urban co-benefits, i.e., positive impacts for integrating climate change into local sustainable development goals in cities. These co-benefits can help us understand how we make social and technological transitions that promote more sustainable urban initiatives, cutting across sectors and regions and leading to radical impacts on the way our societies use environmental resources and distribute its benefits. The discussions will be based on empirical research conducted to understand the policies behind co-benefits in cities in Brazil, China, India, Indonesia and Japan.

This event will commence with a keynote speech by Prof. Donald Huisingh (University of Tennessee, Knoxville (USA) and Editor-in-chief, Journal of Cleaner Production) to mark the beginning of the 2013 academic year for the UNU-IAS Master of Science degree programme. A special volume of the Journal of Cleaner Production   on climate co-benefits in Asian cities will also be launched during the event.
